Environmental pollution refers to any unexpected and abnormal changes in the chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of our surroundings. Today, our environment is being polluted in various ways, mainly due to human activities.
Air pollution occurs when people make fires to cook food, burn bricks, or melt tar for road construction. In cities and towns, motor vehicles, mills, and factories emit smoke and fumes, polluting the air further. Railway engines and powerhouses also contribute to air pollution by burning coal and oil.
Water pollution is another alarming problem. People throw waste into rivers, canals, and ponds. Fertilizers and insecticides used in farming wash into water bodies. Mills and factories discharge poisonous chemicals and waste into rivers and seas. Additionally, water vehicles, unsafe drains, and unsanitary latrines pollute water even more.
Noise pollution has become a serious threat in modern life. It is caused by motor vehicles, mills, factories, airplanes, as well as domestic appliances, radios, cassette players, CDs, and televisions. This continuous noise harms our hearing and affects our mental and physical health.
Deforestation adds another grave danger to the environment. Large-scale cutting down of trees and hills has created ecological imbalance, leading to natural disasters, floods, the destruction of wildlife, rising sea levels, and even threats to food production.
To reduce environmental pollution, several measures must be taken. More trees should be planted and afforestation should be encouraged. The cutting down of trees and hills must be controlled. Both the government and responsible citizens should work together to create awareness and build a civic sense. Only then can we ensure a healthier and safer environment for all.
