About B Borooah College

In honor of Bholanath Borooah, a prominent figure in Assamese business and a trusted associate of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah, B. Borooah College was founded in 1943. Its inception took place during the challenging times of World War II, as part of the nationalistic struggle against foreign rule. The college initially operated as an evening institution, commencing classes on September 13th, 1943, with 15 students within the premises of Kamrup Academy H.S. School. The founders of the college aimed to provide an opportunity for economically disadvantaged students to pursue higher education while supporting themselves during the day. Throughout its history, B. Borooah College has been associated with notable personalities. The first Chief Minister of Assam, Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi, served as the college’s first honorary Principal. Hem Barua, a charismatic Parliamentarian and renowned literary figure, held the position of Principal for an extended period. B. Borooah College offers a two-year Higher Secondary Course under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and three-year degree programs in Arts, Science, and BBA and BSC IT under Gauhati University. Admission to the H.S. Arts courses in the general category is not granted to students scoring below 40% in the HSLC Examination.
